No. That is one of they myths that is perpetuated about the entertainment industry. The Movie and TV industry has become more and more decentralized over the years. The Screen Actor’s Guild (the parent union for all professional actors) maintains offices in over thirty cities around the USA. These offices exist because there is a permanent base of actors living and working those cities. It is advisable for all actors to start locally. There is much less competition. After you have launched your career and have a fairly sophisticated demo reel of your work to show – then you may want to test the waters in Los Angeles and Hollywood.
